Salil Parekh is Capgemini India''s executive chairman

Chennai: Consulting company Capgemini has appointed Salil Parekh as the executive chairman of India. Prior to this Parekh was the CEO of North America and was responsible for the restructuring and turn around of Capgemini's operations there.

According to Paul Hermelin, Group CEO, "India is a group priority. The continuing expansion in India and the combination with Kanbay will require the experience and skills that Parekh has."

In India Parekh will focus on successfully combining with Kanbay, once the acquisition has been confirmed, establishing India as the largest country operation for Capgemini, and building the local consulting business leveraging the deep experience within Capgemini, especially in the financial services, telecom, energy and utilities, and retail sectors.

Parekh, a member of the global management board of Capgemini, has been with company for 14 years. He started with Ernst & Young in 1992, and was part of the consulting business that was acquired by Capgemini in 2000. In prior roles, he has been the CEO in North America, global head of technology services, COO, Asia Pacific; CEO, India, and a partner in the financial services practice in the US.

Parekh has a masters degree in computer science and mechanical engineering from Cornell University in New York and a Bachelors of Technology degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Powai.
