Nvidia expands AI development partnership with Vietnam's tech leaders

11 Dec 2023

In a significant development, US chipmaker Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, declared on Monday, 11 December 2023, the company’s commitment to enhancing its collaboration with Vietnam’s top tech firms. The focus of this extended partnership is to support Vietnam in cultivating talent for the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure.

Nvidia, having already invested $250 million in Vietnam, has strategically aligned with leading tech companies to implement AI solutions in diverse sectors such as cloud computing, automotive, and healthcare. This was revealed in a document published by the White House in September 2023, during the diplomatic upgrade of relations between Washington and Vietnam.

During his first visit to the country, Huang stated that Vietnam was already a partner of Nvidia, as they had millions of clients here. He went on to articulate that the deepening of relations would involve collaboration with prominent Vietnamese tech entities, including Viettel, FPT, Vingroup, and VNG. The CEO highlighted Nvidia’s commitment to supporting Vietnam in AI training and infrastructure development.

Last week, it was reported that Nvidia’s intention to discuss cooperation deals on semiconductors with Vietnamese tech companies and authorities was discussed during a meeting held on Monday, 11 December 2023. This move aligns with Vietnam’s aspirations to enter the realm of chip design and potentially chip manufacturing, seizing opportunities arising from trade tensions between the United States and China.

At the event on Monday, 11 December 2023, Vietnam’s investment minister, Nguyen Chi Dzung, acknowledged the country’s preparations to attract investment in the semiconductor and AI industries. Dzung urged Nvidia to establish a research and development facility in Vietnam, in response to Huang’s proposal, after he met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday, 10 December 2023.

As Vietnam positions itself to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the tech industry, Nvidia’s expanded collaboration underscores the mutual interest in fostering technological advancement and innovation.
