Europe’s largest contract research organisation to set up HQ at Strathclyde University
31 May 2012
Europe's largest contract research organisation is setting up its UK headquarters at Strathclyde University.
Fraunhofer Gesellschaft will also open a centre for applied photonics, a move that will further consolidate its association with the university.
The centre will receive around £9 million of funding, of which around a third would come from the German company and the rest would be put together by Strathclyde, Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Funding Council.
Based at the £89-million Technology and Innovation Centre, the photonics centre would open in 2014 with 10 people.
However, the parties hope that the centre would grow to around 80 staff and research students within five years.
The centre would function as a hub for laser research and technology for sectors including healthcare, security, energy and transport.
