So, what do we learn from Sunny’s and Nikki’s experience? If you are planning to go for a trip that involves driving for long periods on highways and state roads, make sure your car is prepared for it.

First and foremost, it is imperative that you get a road-worthy vehicle. If your car was bought more than five years ago it should be exhaustively serviced. Get your vehicle checked thoroughly at an authorised service centre.

• All the worn out parts should be replaced. Ensure that all the hoses, pipes and cables are intact
• Ensure all fluid levels are as recommended by the manufacturer
• Make sure the brakes and battery are working properly
• Ensure all lights are in working condition
• Ensure that the tyres are in good condition and would stand the rigors of your trip. Also get the stephney tyre inflated to the recommended pressure. Ensure that the vehicle body jack is available and is in a working condition
• Carry a set of open-end spanners, reversible screwdriver, a pair of pliers and a torch
• For spare carry a set of drive belts, hose pipes, loose electrical wire, insulation tape, extra fuses and coolant
• Always carry a first-aid kit
• Always pre-plan the route you intend to take.
