AeroIndia 2009: Finmeccania thrust on Selex Galileo system
13 Feb 2009
While several companies of Italy's Finmeccania group are showcasing their products at AeroIndia 2009 in Bangalore, the focus is currently on Selex Galileo, which is demonstrating its capabilities in surveillance, electronic warfare, electro-optics and naval systems. Selex Galileo will actively promote its new partnerships with industry players in the region.
Selex Galileo is a leading company in the field of advanced surveillance solutions. Its ATOS, or Airborne Tactical Observation And Surveillance System, has been sold to customers worldwide, with more than 40 systems installed or in the process of being installed on a broad range of platforms.
The company's active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar technology, part of its Seaspray family, has been selected by the UK Royal Navy, the US Coast Guard, the Italian air force and the Ecuadorian navy.
In surveillance, the company provides complete UAV solutions and has more than 60 years of experience in this field. A recent service contract for the Mirach 100/5 for use at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) of the Indian ministry of defence showed excellent results, and Selex Galileo is now pursuing the opportunity to sell complete target drone systems (See: Finmeccania to pull out all stops at AeroIndia 2007).
Additionally, in the field of development, manufacture and integration of advanced self-protection and countermeasure systems, Selex Galileo has achieved success with Boeing Integrated Defence Systems with the installation of its aircraft gateway processor (AGP) on board the all of the US army's extended Block II Apache Longbow helicopters. It has also provided its products for the Royal Navy's Lynx programme and for the Eurofighter Typhoon programme.
In electro-optics, Selex Galileo is working with Indian industry to assist in the development and support of infrared products. In recent years, the company was awarded a contract to supply its Precision Approach Radar 2080 C to the Indian Navy for its Goa naval base, and the same PAR is in use at the Indian Air Force's bases.
