AirAsia India commemorates JRD Tata with new plane

AirAsia India today launched its fourth aircraft with a livery dedicated to J R D Tata, considered the pioneer of civil aviation in India. The new aircraft has been christened as 'The Pioneer'.

The livery of AirAsia India's fourth aircraft bears an image of J R D Tata with a Puss Moth, the aircraft he flew on 15 October 1932, leading to the birth of Tata Airlines and starting civil aviation in the sub-continent.

The unveiling was attended by Mittu Chandilya, chief executive of AirAsia India; Tony Fernandes, group chief executive officer of AirAsia; S Ramadorai, non-executive chairman of AirAsia India, and Ratan N Tata, chairman rmeritus of Tata Sons, at the GMR Aero Technic MRO Hangar, Hyderabad.

Chandilya said, "We wanted to celebrate the growth of AirAsia India by honouring the man without whom flying would have been impossible in India. The Tata group has shaped Indian aviation to a great extent and has been a huge support to the AirAsia India team as well."

At present, AirAsia India has Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Goa, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Pune in its destination network.
