AirAsia India, upping the ante in the southern India air fare war that it started, has launched another round of promotional fares.

Under the new offer, all-inclusive tickets on the Bangalore-Kochi and Bangalore-Chennai routes would cost Rs1490, while tickets on Bangalore-Goa route have been priced at Rs1,690.

AirAsia India began its operations in India on 12 June with a Bangalore-Goa flight. It has now added Chennai and Kochi to its network.

The carrier is a 49:30:21 joint venture between Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia Berhad, Tata Sons, and Arun Bhatia's Telstra Tradeplace.

AirAsia India chief executive Mittu Chandilya had earlier said that it would focus on connecting 'tier-II' cities (a demeaning but long-standard marketing term for India's smaller towns), offering fares about 35 per cent lower than the prevailing market rates.

The entry of AirAsia into the Indian market has intensified a fare war. Other budget airlines including SpiceJet and IndiGo have also with come up different rounds of promotional schemes to attract flyers.
