Bombay HC to hear petition from Air India pilots

Mumbai: Lurching from one crisis to another, state-owned, financially bankrupt, Air India landed in the courts yesterday with a group of Air India pilots moving the Bombay High Court challenging a management decision to train pilots of the carrier's domestic operations to fly the latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
In its petition, the Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) has alleged discrimination on part of the management at the national carrier for providing opportunities for career progression to pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines.
The matter will come up for hearing today.
Meanwhile, Air India's international operations took a hit on Tuesday because of crew shortage as 23 IPG-affiliated pilots reported sick.
An IPG meeting with the management failed to resolve matters.
The airline, in a statement, however said the pilots will not strike and that operations will continue to be normal.
