British Airways to invest £5.5 billion in fleet expansion, upgrades

Dubai: British Airways will invest £5.5 billion to buy new aircraft as part of its fleet expansion programme. According to a senior airline official the carrier will add more Boeing 777-300 ERs, 12 Airbus 380s and 24 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its existing fleet.
According to Paolo De Renzis, regional commercial manager, Middle East, the airline also would invest in introducing new cabins and new in-flight entertainment systems.
Together, merged entity British Airways and Iberia fly to over 200 destinations and operate more than 400 aircraft. They have joint revenues of more than euro14 billion and carried 55 million passengers last year.
BA will introduce new cabins through a £100 million investment in First new World Traveller and World Traveller Plus cabins and new in-flight entertainment systems.
The carrier has already inducted the latest technology to provide services to customers, including mobile boarding passes via smart phones, mid-air email and text services on London City- JFK and the BA App for smart phones.
BA has also launched new routes - San Juan, Dan Diego, Marrakesh, Haneda and direct flights to Buenos Aires.
