Gulf Air places $5 billion order for 35 Airbus aircraft
29 May 2008
Gulf Air has placed an order for 20 Airbus A330-300s and 15 A320s medium- and long-haul aircraft in a deal worth $5 billion (3.2 billion euros), an order that will more than double the Airbus fleet of the Kingdom of Bahrain's flag carrier, the manufacturer announced yesterday.
The airline already operates 10 A320s, six A330-200s and nine A340-300s. It had also signed a contract with Boeing for 16 787 Dreamliner's in January this year. No delivery schedule, however, was announced.
"Gulf Air is taking huge strides forward in its strategy to re-fleet and expand its network and this contract is a significant milestone in this direction," CEO Bjorn Naf said.
Airbus said the A330s will fly to Europe and the Far East.
