Indian regional airline, Star Aviation, confirms order for 10 Embraer E-170 aircraft

Indian start-up carrier, Chennai-based Star Aviation, has confirmed an order for up to 10 Embraer 170 regional jets. The airline is a start-up unit of the ETA Star group, a Dubai-headquartered conglomerate, and also India's first scheduled regional airline.
The Brazilian aircraft maker said in a statement that it had signed a contract for the sale of the aircraft with Dubai-based ETA Star Group. According to Embraer, the deal covers seven firm orders and three options.
Deliveries will begin in 2009, ahead of the carrier's planned launch.
Reports emerging last week had said that the ministry of civil aviation had granted Star Aviation in-principle approval to import E-170 aircraft into India.
Embraer said the Star's aircraft would seat 76 passengers in a single-class layout and would also feature individual video monitors in each seat.
