NACIL invites bids for sale, leaseback of aircraft

New Delhi: National Aviation Company of India Ltd, the merged entity of state carriers Indian and Air India, invited bids on Monday for the sale and leaseback of ten aircraft. The company has invited sealed bids from companies for the sale and leaseback of six Airbus A320s and four Boeing B747-400s.
The merged entity had earlier ordered 68 aircraft from Boeing and 43 from Airbus. Deliveries on these orders have begun and the merged carrier is now mulling plans to further augment its fleet with fresh orders.
New acquisition plans may result in the addition of 60 more aircraft to its fleet, which would make it 200-strong. In size this would allow the merged carrier to match its peers in the market place like Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Emirates.
Just last week, the airline launched non-stop flights between Delhi, Mumbai and New York with two brand new freshly inducted Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft.
