New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) may consider issuing notices to private carrier Kingfisher Airlines to expeditiously clear its dues related to airport charges. According to official sources, these dues now add up to around Rs200 crore.
"We may consider issuing them notices to clear their dues fast," senior officials said here.
Officials also ruled out penalising the carrier by grounding its fleet saying such a move would be "a very harsh decision" and hit the air travellers.
Kingfisher spokespersons declined to comment.
According to reports, Kingfisher paid Rs20 crore to AAI last month as part-payment of its dues for April and May. According to officials, the carrier's total dues stood at around Rs205 crore for services and facilities rendered over the past six months.
The AAI also has to get its dues cleared form another major defaulter Air India, which owes the authority about Rs700 crore by way of landing, parking, navigation and other airport charges.
