CIDCO: First phase of Navi Mumbai Intl airport to be ready by 2012

Mumbai: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco), the organisation responsible for developing infrastructure in Maharashtra, has said that it will meet the deadline of 2012 for completion of the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The airport, to be built at a cost of Rs2,787 crore, will have a capacity of 10 million passengers per year.
By then, the existing international airport airport at Mumbai is expected to reach its saturation point of 40 million passengers per annum.
Cidco has short-listed three sites in Navi Mumbai where it would like to rehabilitate 3,500 families from 10 villages expected to be displaced by the project.
The cost of the rehabilitation package is expected to be in the region of Rs250-Rs300 crore.
Of the 2,053 hectares earmarked for the project, Cidco holds 57 per cent and the state government 21 per cent. The rest, according to reports, is yet to be acquired.
