New Delhi: GE Infrastructure, a subsidiary of General Electric, is planning to participate in India's airport modernisation programme. The company said it is in the process of identifying bankable projects from the 35 non- metro airports that are being upgraded through the public- private partnership route.

GE Infrastructure, which is into energy, transportation and water process technologies, said it has  deployed a team to identify the non-metro airports which it thinks can be given a distinct GE identity.
It will bid for the modernisation work as a member of a consortia, for which it is currently in talks with other companies.

GE Infra has acquired expertise in airport management with its acquisition of airport development and consulting firm, UK-based AviaSolutions, in which it bought a majority stake through a group company, GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS).

GECAS has a fleet of over 1,450 aircraft which it leases to more than 230 airlines in about 70 countries, including Indian carriers, such as Air Deccan.
