Larsen & Toubro to bid for greenfield Muscat airport

Mumbai: Indian infrastructure conglomerate Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) reportedly has plans to bid for the proposed $711 million greenfield Muscat International Airport construction project, though its wholly-owned subsidiary, Larsen and Toubro Oman.
L&T had previously envisaged interest in foreign airport opportunities. L&T's president of the construction division, KV Rangaswamy confirmed, "we will look for foreign airport modernisation contracts and greenfield airports, as and when they come up".
The greenfield airport is being constructed to handle Oman's aviation growth plans, with the first phase designed to handle 12 million passengers per annum, with eventual capacity to handle 48 million passengers per annum. It will be constructed 15 kilometres from the existing Muscat al-Seeb International Airport, which forecasts predict will attain its current capacity limits before 2015.
Larsen & Toubro has a strong presence in India's airport sector, and is involved in expansion contracts for Mumbai and Delhi airports. It was also involved in the construction of greenfield airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Larsen & Toubro Oman has also expressed interest in bidding for the proposed greenfield Ras Al Hadd airport project in Oman.
