New Delhi: India's Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has set up a 10-member committee to carry out a security inspection of the fast upcoming hospitality sector, and other areas, in close proximity of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The review, along with suggestions from the committee, has to be submitted to BCAS at the earliest.

Sources say the committee has been asked to carry out a detailed survey of areas close to the runway and also submit a list of measures that could be taken to strengthen the existing systems.

The committee comprises the commissioner of security (civil aviation) chairman, CISF DG, a director from the ministry of civil aviation, one BCAS representative from the headquarters, a representative each from the information bureau, R&AW, Air Force, Delhi Police and Airports Authority of India, general manager (security) BCAS and if and when needed, a representative from the Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd operators of the airport.

Earlier, from a three-member committee set up to examine the area, two sent individual reports saying that DIAL had no security clearance. The committee also advised that the matter be taken up with relevant authorities at the earliest as the hospitality sector was coming up at a fast pace.

"The new committee has been told to specially check whether DIAL would have required permissions under the existing security and legal framework and whether it obtained these or not. The team will also advise on measures to strengthen security and suggest fresh rules and orders that should be required for security clearance. Members will be free to consider any other issue that they think is pertinent to airport security," said sources.
