Zephyr '09: Let there be flight

More than 15,000 students from reputed engineering colleges across the country have started pouring in at IIT Powai to participte in Zephyr, the prestigious institute's three-day annual festival hosted by its department of aerospace engineering, that gets underway tomorrow, 9 October 2009.
Zephyr has developed into a strong platform for student-industry-academia interaction.
The highlights of this year's event are talks on global technology collaboration by Dr Naveed Hussain, vice president, engineering and technology, Boeing India, and on networking India with regional air transportation by Dr Kota Harinarayana, Raja Ramanna Fellow, National Aerospace Laboratories.
Also, for the first time in any college festival, powered paragliding will be displayed. It will be conducted on the sports grounds of IIT Bombay.
Another first of its kind in India is the mobile flight simulator that will be showcased at Zephyr. The Rs60-lakh simulator was inaugurated by civil aviation minister Praful Patel in 2007.
Participating teams will also get to learn the fundamentals of building model aircraft in the Boeing remote control plane workshop.
