BAE Systems in $4-bn aircraft deal with Oman
22 Dec 2012
Britain's biggest aerospace company BAE Systems Plc has secured a major deal valued at approximately £2.5 billion ($4 billion) yesterday for the supply fighter and trainer aircraft to the sultanate of Oman.
Under the agreement, BAE will deliver 12 Typhoon fighters and eight Hawk advanced jet trainer aircraft to the gulf nation's armed forces beginning 2017.
Welcoming the Omani government's decision BAE's group managing director for international business Guy Griffiths said, ''Receiving this contract is an honour and is excellent news for both BAE Systems and the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium.''
''We believe that Oman has now added the most advanced fighter jet and proven training aircraft, available in the world, to its military portfolio,'' he said.
Besides supplying the aircraft, BAE will provide in-service support to Oman's Royal Air Force.
The deal has come just a day before British prime minister David Cameroon's visit to Oman scheduled on Saturday.
