Nagpur: Commercial aircraft manufacturer, Boeing Co, announced Wednesday that a $100 million maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) base at Mihan-SEZ in Nagpur in central India would get operational by 2013.

"The construction work which is under way since January may be over by 2012 and the MRO would get functional a year later," said Dinesh Keskar, the president of Boeing's India operations.

Keskar refused to comment on reports that an expert panel has recommended that Air India plans to buy 27 B787 Dreamliner jets from Boeing ought to be reconsidered given airline's disastrous financial condition and what impact any such decision would have on the MRO plans.

A panel headed by DGCA chief Bharat Bhushan has taken a view that the government may have to consider cancelling the order for the Dreamliners which will come at a total cost of $4 billion.

The MRO at Nagpur will be Boeing's second globally, with the first one located at Shanghai.

The MRO is a joint venture between Boeing and the Air India and is part of an agreement between the two after a deal was arrived at for Boeing to supply 68 aircraft to Air India.
