India has developed a missile that can be launched from a submarine, defence minister AK Antony told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday 4 September. The minister said the missile is ready and awaiting the necessary platform for trials, which will 'soon' be identified by Indian Navy.
The development of an aircraft-borne version of the Brahmos missile is also in progress. It will be integrated on IL-38 maritime patrol planes for the Navy and SU-30 MKIs for the Air Force.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is also undertaking a joint development project with the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for the development of a surface-to-air missile (SAM) that can be launched from ships as well as from land, the minister said.
