Bring home an eco-friendly Ganesha from The Bombay Store
20 Aug 2010
The Bombay Store has introduced a line of eco-friendly Ganesha idols for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
It has tied up with social enterprise eCoexist for the eco-friendly idols and to create awareness about the harmful effects of plaster of paris traditionally used for making Ganesh idols.
The eco-friendly idols are crafted by traditional craftsmen in Maharashtra as well as Sirsi in Karnataka.
The Sirsi idols are fully hand sculpted and made using a base of natural clay, designed according to scriptural code. They are then painted using natural pigments such as turmeric, red earth (geroo) and earth from Multan.
These idols can be immersed in a bucket of water and they dissolve in a matter of a few hours. This water can then be poured into potted plants or in a garden without causing any damage to the natural environment.
The idols will be available at The Bombay Store outlets in Mumbai and Pune at a price ranging from Rs375 to Rs2,500.
The Bombay Store also brings out environment-friendly products such as organic colors during Holi, recycled paper stationery and others during festivals.
