Job ads continue upward growth in Australia
06 Sep 2010
Job advertisements in newspapers and on the internet across Australia continued their growth story, recording a 2.6 per cent rise in August, a 36 per cent growth over last year figures, reflecting an improvement in the economy.
The figures released by ANZ Group, which compiles data from major newspapers said that on an average 176,239 jobs were advertised each week in the major metropolitan newspapers and on the internet.
The growth signals that employers are now keen on hiring personnel, after the downward trend seen during the recession.
The growth in August was driven by 2.6 per cent increase in internet job ads and 1.5 per cent in newspaper ones.
The job ad figures though are 37 per cent below the peak figures reached before the recession.
Warren Hogan, ANZ's chief economist said that the rise in job ads suggests the possibility of unemployment rates falling below 5 per cent by the end of 2010.
He added that the figures though disguise disparities in the job ads between states with Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales outperforming South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria.
