Nine agencies in D&AD Awards 2009
04 May 2009
The list of nominations and in-book status for the D&AD Awards 2009 has been announced and nine Indian entries have managed to achieve the prestigious in-book status. In the list of Indian agencies, Creativeland Asia leads the tally with three in-books, followed by Rediffusion Y&R, Ogilvy India, McCann Erickson, Publicis Communications, Leo Burnett and Happy - all with one in-book each.
However, none of the agencies have managed to achieve any nominations for the 2009 Awards.
The judging for the extremely rare Black Pencils, which are awarded to those pieces of truly groundbreaking work that redefine their medium, will take place on May 7-8 in London. Both Yellow and Black Pencils will be announced at the D&AD Awards Ceremony and Dinner in London on June 11. The D&AD Annual will be published in September.
D&AD is an educational charity that represents the global creative, design and advertising communities. Since 1962, D&AD has set industry standards, educated and inspired the next generation and, more recently, has demonstrated the impact of creativity and innovation on enhancing business performance.
D&AD is a not-for-profit organisation, donating all of its generated funds back into the creative community through education and enterprise.
The in-book status allows the entry to be recorded in the list of some of the best work produced in advertising and design in that year, in the D&AD Annual. On the other hand, entries that have achieved a nomination status qualify automatically to be judged for the Yellow or Black Pencil and stand a chance to be awarded either of them.
Creativeland Asia' entries include its work for Eye Bank Association (titled Christian/Hindu/Parsee) in the Direct/Writing category; its work for Indiana Motors (titled Spanner) and for Car Mall (titled Used Cards) in the Graphic Design/Stationery category.
The other Indian agencies to have achieved in-book status are: Rediffusion Y&R for its work on Airtel (titled Airtel Mobile Phone Data Backup - Engineer/Housewife/Tourist) in the Direct/Print category; Publicis Communication for its work on Cancer Patients Aids Association (titled Spit Stain Graffiti) in the Direct/Ambient category; McCann Erickson for its work on Prism Papyrus (titled Monsters, Ink) in the Direct/Writing category; Ogilvy India for its work on WWF (titled Save Ourselves 'Tree') in the Illustration/Poster Advertising category; Leo Burnett for its work on Lokart Paint Thinner (titled Splash - Yellow/Orange/Green/Blue) in the Packaging Design/Packaging category and Happy for its work on Lee Jeans (Arvind Brands) titled Skinny Jeans, also in the Packaging Design/Packaging category.
Of the 20,000 pieces of work judged, a grand total of 717 pieces have made it to the in-book status, of which 165 have been nominated. In Asia, Japan leads with 21 in-books and 13 nominations, followed by Singapore, China, Malaysia and India, among others.
