Alexa launches Chinese language version of its website

Internet metrics firm Alexa has beta-launched a Chinese-language version of its website.
The Amazon.com-owned site, at cn.alexa.com, targets Chinese users who download the Alexa Toolbar. According to the company, the Chinese version lacks many capabilities its Western counterpart includes, but the company aims to grow the domain to include more features in the future.
''You can browse the traffic stats, contact information, related links, clickstream data and demographics of websites you are interested in, all in Chinese,'' Alexa posted on its company blog. ''At the moment only the 'site info' pages are available, but we will be rolling out more features soon.''
Alexa's functions rely on its toolbar, which it uses to collect data on netizens' browsing behavior. That information is then compiled and conveyed on its website.
Alexa, which competes with companies such as comScore and Nielsen, has encountered problems with its measurement reporting in the past, with claims its data is at best only a guide. The site additionally came under fire in 2007 when it erroneously reported that YouTube was bigger than Google.
