To fill in the gap left by the demise of the once ubiquitous The Illustrated Weekly of India, Wieden+Kennedy Delhi today announced the launch of a new general-interst magazine titled, Motherland, which will provide an in-depth perspective on trends, issues and ideas emanating from contemporary Indian subculture.

Indian subculture is an intriguing, massive yet largely neglected category that includes everything from unknown rural communities to offbeat urban tribes.

Published by Wieden+Kennedy Delhi, Motherland will explore this culture by focusing editorials and visual content across a theme. The first issue (August-September) was centered on the theme, 'Freedom.'

Mohit Jayal, managing director, Wieden+Kennedy, Delhi, said, ''As a creative business, Wieden+Kennedy is constantly studying society and popular culture for fresh insights, this magazine is a natural by-product of that research.''

The editorial team consists of V Sunil as the creative director and Annette Ekin as the editor. Target group for the magazine is comprehensive, with W+K aiming at individuals in the age group of 20-50.

The magazine will be published bi-monthly and will be priced at Rs100, though W+K plans to make it a monthly issue soon.
