BMW working on 450 HP i8: reports
13 Jun 2015
The popularity of its futuristic plug-in hybrid notwithstanding, it is believed BMW is about to release a second, high(er) performance version of the i8 with a bigger engine, sportier design and fewer seats for passengers, London-based Auto Express reported.
According to commentators, the biggest difference would be under the hood, where the current 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine would be replaced by a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that adds a fourth cylinder.
The bigger engine would obviously be a lot heavier, though, the company wanted to stay close to the current i8's dimensions. As such, BMW would be expected to lighten up the elsewhere by not painting the carbon fibre panels and stripping the rear seats.
According to experts, with right balance of power and deftness the 300 brake horsepower could be hiked closer to 450.
