Telephone subscriber base in India rose to 1.2 billion in FY24 Trai report

The number of telephone subscribers in India stood at 1.199 billion at the end of March 2024, increasing by 2.30 per cent from 1.172 billion as of end-March 2023, data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) showed.

Overall tele-density in India increased to 85.6 per cent at the end of March 2024 from 84.51 per cent at the end of March 2023, growing at an annual rate of 1.39 percent.

Average phone usage by subscribers increased by 4.73 per cent to 963 minutes per month during the 2023-24 financial year from 919 minutes per month during the 2022-23 fiscal.

Revenues of telecom service provides, in terms of Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR), also increased by 8.24 per cent to Rs2,70,504 crore during FY24 from Rs2,49,908 crore in tFY23.

Total number of internet subscribers in India recorded an increase of 8.3 per cent at 95.4 per cent at end-March 2024 from 88.1 crore at end-March 2023, as per Trai’s annual report. 

The country added 73 million internet subscribers taking the total subscriber base to 954 million at the end of March 2024,an 8.3 per cent increase from 881 million as of end-March 2023.

The number of broadband users increased by 78 million or 9.25 per cent, to 924 million at the end of March 2024 from 846 million as of end-March 2023.

The number of wireless data subscribers in the country increased by 7.93 per cent to 913 million at the end of March 2024 against 846 million at the end of March 2023. Wireless data usage increazsed by 21.69 per cent to 1,94,774 PB during the 2023-24 financial year from 1,60,054 PB during fiscal 2022-23.
