DRDO successfully flight-tests guided bomb

Defence Research and Defence Organisation (DRDO) today successfully flight tested a 500 kg class Inertial Guided Bomb from an Su-30 MKI aircraft at the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan.
The indigenously-developed guided bomb achieved the desired range and hit the target at a distance of 30 km away with high precision, says a DRDO release.
All the mission objectives have been met. The weapon system is capable of carrying different warheads. India has carried out several such trials this year.
DRDO is engaged in developing defence technologies covering various disciplines.
The test firing of the guided bomb comes two days after the Indian Air Force successfully test fired the aerial version of the supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from a Sukhoi jet at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The 2.5 tonne air-to-surface missile has a range of around 300 km, and it will significantly enhance the IAF's combat capability.
The BrahMos cruise missile travels at a speed of Mach 2.8, nearly three times that of sound.
On 17 May, the Indian Navy and the DRDO had successfully test-fired a Man-Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) that incorporates advanced features like an image infrared radar seeker with integrated avionics from the Pokhran test range.
On 14 May, DRDO had carried out the flight test of ABHYAS – High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) from its test range in Chandipur in Balasore, Odisha. The ABHYAS missile has been designed on an in-line small gas turbine engine and it uses the indigenously developed MEMS-based navigation system.
In March this year, India had also test-fired the PINAKA-guided-missile from the Pokhran range. PINAKA is a multiple rocket launcher produced by DRDO for the Indian Army.
