Terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for this morning's attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in the heart of Srinagar, which left five CRPF personnel dead and seven injured. The two terrorists who carried out the attack were part of a fidayeen squad. They were both killed.

The attack on Wednesday morning in Belima, Srinagar caught the security forces unawares resulting in a high number of casualties.

Two militants who entered a paramilitary camp in Srinagar dressed in cricket uniforms and killed five jawans were most likely from Pakistan, said Home Secretary R K Singh.

"Prima facie, the terrorists appear to be from across the border and were Pakistani nationals," Singh told in New Delhi.

Six jawans who were injured are in hospital and not in critical condition. Three civilians were also injured in the attack.

"Some boys were playing cricket and CRPF personnel were on standby. These terrorists took AK47s out and started firing. Both the terrorists have been killed. We have lost five men, five are injured but out of danger. Three civilians have been injured and the terrorists seem to be from across the border, not locals," Singh said.
