India and China will hold a joint anti-terror military training programme from 6 December to14 December in Karnataka, Chinese defence ministry spokesman Huang Xueping.

The two armies will each dispatch an infantry company to take part in the joint training, code-named "Hand in Hand 2008", to Belgaum in Karnataks said Huang.

The Chinese contingent, comprising 137 soldiers, already arrived at the training site at Belgaum, he added.

The training programme is organised as part of the Memorandum of Understanding for Exchanges and Cooperation in the Field of Defense signed in 2006 and is listed in the annual exchange plans for 2008, said Huang. It will also enhance understanding and trust between the two armies, he added.

The time of the training was set previously and the joint training has no specified background and is not aimed at any third parties he said.

The nine-day anti-terror military training will include weapons and other equipments as well as communication tactics and a comprehensive drill.

The two countries held their first joint anti-terrorism training last year in Kunming in southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan.
