The centre has deployed commandos of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) to help security forces guarding the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir in anti-terrorist operations.

Cammandos of the NSG, a special forces unit under the ministry of home affairs, has been training at the Border Security Force camp at Humhaha near Srinagar. Wearing their trademark black uniform, these special commandos perform drills along with other security forces to build synergy.
About two dozen snipers from the NSG's house intervention teams (HIT commandos) have been training at the BSF camp since the last two weeks, according to reports.
The home ministry proposes to have some 100 NSG commandos positioned at the BSF station. "Since they specialise in anti-hijack drills, they have been placed near the airport," reports quoted a senior officer as saying.
The home ministry last month cleared deployment of NSG commandos in Kashmir and will soon be deployed in anti-terror operations in the Valley.
Home ministry expects the use of NSG commandos in anti-terror operations to help reduce casualties among the forces, particularly in the backdrop of the centre's plans to intensify operations.
Jammu and Kashmir was this week placed under Governor's rule after the BJP pulled out of its coalition with Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party.
With the state coming under governor’s rule, anti-terror operations are also expected to get into full swing. SP Vaid, the state's top police officer, said the operations that had been put on hold during the Ramzan ceasefire, were being scaled up.
The NSG snipers, with better equipment like through-the-wall radars, sniper rifles and corner shot assault weapons, and accuracy in operations, would help reduce casualty in operations, say home ministry officials.
