Tejinder Singh's bail plea dismissed, arrested

Lt (retd) Gen Tejinder Singh was arrested on Monday after his bail application was rejected, over charges of allegedly offering a Rs14-crore bribe to then Army Chief Gen V K Singh to approve the procurement of heavy mobility Tatra miltary vehicles.
Special CBI Judge Madhu Jain rejected Tejinder Singh's bail application, which was opposed by the prosecuting agency, and remanded him in judicial custody till 20 October.
The court had taken cognisance of the CBI charge sheet on 28 August against Singh, relying on the statements of former defence minister A K Antony, Gen V K Singh and other witnesses.
Meanwhile, CBI provided a copy of charge sheet and other documents to Singh, who was present in court in response to a court summons.
The CBI in its charge sheet had said that in August- September 2010, the file pertaining to procurement of 1,676 Tatra vehicles was pending before V K Singh, who was evaluating the army's total projected requirement of the vehicles.
According to its charge sheet, the CBI had alleged that Tejinder Singh met V K Singh in his office in South Block on 22 September 2010, and during the meeting, offered Rs14 crore to V K Singh for approving the acquisition of Tatra trucks by the first week of October.
The charge sheet had claimed that Antony had confirmed having been informed by V K Singh about such offer of bribe made to him about by Tejinder Singh (See: Antony orders CBI probe into Army chief's bribe allegation).
