Pakistan-backed terrorists ambushed an Army convoy in Kadlabal in Pampore in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, near Srinagar-Jammu highway today and opened fire killing three Army personnel.
Sources said the terrorists fired at the Army convoy near Kadalbal locality of Pampore town, some 3 km from the outskirts of Srinagar city, at around 3:30 pm.
The three soldiers killed in the attack could not be identified immediately. The Army has yet to issue a statement.
Search operation underway, IG (Operations) of the CRPF said, adding that security forces retaliated to the firing but couldn't fire openly due to the presence of the public.
Militants managed to flee from the spot after the attack. Security forces have cordoned the area and a search operation has been launched.
The number of gunmen involved in the attack is yet unknown, but they are believed to have been from the militant Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Sources said they had intelligence reports warning of a possible attack on security forces on the highway.
Eight troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force were killed in a similar ambush in the same stretch of the highway in June this year.
