New Delhi: The Indian Navy and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are jointly organising  NAVSIS - an international naval symposium and exhibition on information systems.

The symposium will aim at providing the Indian Navy a vision of how technology can be put to best use to ensure information flows within an organisation that will provide a larger vision of sustained operations through seamless connectivity, maintaining a high level of information assurance and data security.

Participants will include senior officials from the Indian Navy, representatives from the core area of information systems from the ministry of defence (MoD), Indian Air Force, Indian Army and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The programme will be held on 6-7 October 2008.

This seminar will provide an opportunity for the industry and R&D establishments to learn about the challenges and opportunities associated with development of a secured information system for the Indian Navy.

The symposium is also intended to provide an ideal networking platform for all participants.

The navy is already in the process of implementing concepts like net-centric warfare, global information grid in consultation with industry leaders in the field of networking and high-end sensor integration, and many more.

The navy is now seeking to learn from the industry about data warehousing, next-generation networks, network security, ERP and encryption technology among other things.

"Our main objective for organising this seminar is to achieve net-centricity through collaborative integration of naval entities and their information assets," said Ashok Kanodia, chairman of CII's defence committee on IT communication.

The chief of naval staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, would be the chief guest at the navy-industry networking meet.

The topics covered during the seminar would be next generation networks - network centric operations, open source systems, identity management, access control and surveillance, trends in IT training, green computing, public domain for private use, ERP - the way ahead, enterprise information security, etc.
