CPI for agricultural and rural labourers up at 10.21 per cent in May

The point to point rate of inflation based on the consumer price index for agricultural labourers (CPI-AL) and consumer price index for rural labourers (CPI-RL) increased to 10.21 per cent during May, from 9.09 per cent in April, for both the series.
The CPI inflation rate for the two series during May 2008 were 9.11 per cent and 8.84 per cent, respectively.
The all-India consumer price index for agricultural and rural labourers (base: 1986-87=100) for May 2009 increased by 7 points each and stood at 475 points for both the series.
The rise in the index, however, varied from state to state, data released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) showed.
In case of agricultural labourers, four states reflected an increase in index between 11 and 16 points; 11 states between 6 and 10 points and 5 states between 1 and 5 points.
Punjab with 523 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 412 points stood at the bottom.
