India's kharif crop area up 7.63 million hectares

Kharif crops have been sown in 990.58 lakh hectares in the country so far, which is 7.63 million hectares more than the acreage on this date last year (923.32 lakh ha).
The sowing of all major crops this year has exceeded those in the last kharif, a government release said.
As per data received from states, paddy has been sown in 336.75 lakh hectares against 313.53 lakh hectares on this date last year, showing an increase of 23.22 lakh ha over the same period last year.
Pulses have been sown in 110.08 lakh hectares so far, which is 19.50 lakh hectares more than this time last season.
Coarse cereals have been sown in 210.13 lakh hectares, 5.80 lakh hectares more as compared to last year.
The comparative cropped areas for major crops as on 9 September this year and last year are as follows: Rice 336.75 (313.53), coarse cereals 210.13 (204.33), oilseeds 171.39 (167.70), pulses 110.08 (90.57), sugarcane 48.19 (41.79), jute 7.57 (6.92), cotton 106.47 (98.48).
