The Direct Taxes Regional Training Institute (DTRTI), Bangalore, is planning to set up global taxation training center and is scouting for a suitable site. The institute is currently in talks with public sector Hindustan Machine Tools Ltd (HMT) for a 20-acre plot.
''Currently we are negotiating with public sector HMT to buy 20 acres of land adjacent to our new campus,'' Jahanzeb Akhtar, director of DTRI-Bangalore, said.
She said there is an increasing demand from neighbouring Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as well as from countries like Brazil and South Africa for training facilities for their revenue staff.
''A new and increasing trend is the training of tax administrators of other countries, especially the developing world,'' she added.
She said the access to latest technology and the cosmopolitan nature of the city makes Bangalore the right choice for setting up a centre for global taxation studies, adding that DTRTI is working on a plan to set up such a centre.
''Looking at the technology prowess of Bangalore and the cosmopolitan nature of the city, we are planning to set up the global centre in the city,'' Akhtar said.
