The centre has allowed the state government of Telangana to deposit a total of 6.05 lakh tonnes of fortified parboiled rice with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), out of the remaining paddy of (Rabi crop 2020-21) and paddy of Kharif Marketing Season 2021-22, as per the request of the state government.
The original milling/ delivery of Customed Milled Rice (CMR) period of KMS 2020-21 (Rabi) in Telangana was upto September 2021. On the request of the state government of Telangana, this has been extended for the seventh time upto May 2022.
Earlier, the centre had approved procurement of an estimated 40.20 lakh tonnes of rice in Telangana during KMS 2021-22 (Rabi crop) with procurement period running upto June 2022 and milling period upto September 2022. As requested by the state government of Telangana in a letter dated 13 April 2022, the Department of Food and Public Distribution, in its letter dated 18 April, approved the procurement estimate.
As compared to 15.79 lakh tonnes of rice procured during KMS 2015-16 with MSP value of Rs3,417.15 crore from 5,35,007 farmers, 94.53 lakh tonnes of rice with MSP value of Rs26,637.39 crore was procured in Telangana during KMS 2020-21, benefitting 21,64,354 farmers.
As of 11 May 2022, in the ongoing KMS 2021-22, 72.71 lakh tonnes of paddy (48.72 lakh tonne equivalent rice) with MSP value Rs14251.59 crore has been procured, benefitting 11,14,833 farmers.
