Consumer price inflation firms up to 10.91 % in February

Consumer price inflation continued to rise for the fifth consecutive month, hitting 10.91 per cent in February 2013 amidst a steady but slow rise in the prices of vegetables, edible oil, cereals and protein-based foods.

This is the third consecutive month that retail consumer prices inflation remains in double digit.

Consumer price inflation that stood at 9.90 per cent in November grew to 10.56 per cent in December and further to 10.79 per cent in January, provisional figures released today showed.

The general consumer price index in February 2013 stood at 10.91 per cent against 10.79 per cent (revised) in January 2013.

The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for are 11.01 per cent and 10.84 per cent, respectively, against the revised estimates of 10.79 per cent and 10.73 per cent, respectively, in January 2013.

Vegetable prices recorded the highest increase in February, pushing inflation level to a record 21.29 per cent, official data released today showed.
