Consumer price inflation for agricultural and rural labourers down at 8.14% and 8.27% in February

Consumer price inflation based on the all-India consumer price index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers (Base 1986-87=100) declined to 8.14 per cent and 8.27 per cent in February 2014, from 9.08 per cent and 9.21 per cent, respectively, in January 2014, official data released today showed.

Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL stood at 6.85 per cent and 6.99 per cent, respectively, during February 2014.

The all-India consumer price index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers for February 2014 remained stationary at 757 points and 759 points, respectively.

The increase or decline in the index varied from state to state.

In case of Agricultural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 and 9 points in 11 states and a decrease between 1 and 9 points in eight states. The index however, remained stationary in one state.

Haryana with 843 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 623 points stood at the bottom.

In the case of rural labourers, it recorded an increase between 1 and 7 points in 12 states, and a decrease between 1 and 8 points in eight states.

Haryana with 836 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 656 points stood at the bottom.

The consumer price index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers in respect of Rajasthan recorded the maximum increase of 9 points and 7 points, respectively, mainly due to increase in the prices of wheat, bajra,  pulses, gingely oil, milk, ghee, vegetables and fruits, sugar, dhoti cotton mill, plastic shoes, anacin and toilet soap.

The consumer price index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers in respect of Andhra Pradesh registered the maximum decrease of 9 points and 8 points, respectively, mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, jowar, ragi, groundnut oil, onion, vegtable and fruits, sugar and firewood.
