Consumer price inflation rate up at 9.84% in September

The annual rate of inflation based on all-India consumer price index (general) stood at 9.84 per cent in September 2013, up from 9.52 per cent in the previous month, data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed.
The corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban areas for September 2013 stood at 9.71 per cent and 9.93 per cent, respectively against the revised (final) inflation rates of 8.93 per cent and 10.32 per cent, respectively, for rural and urban areas for August 2013.
Food prices for consumers rose 11.44 per cent in September 2013 from a year earlier, faster than August's 11.06 per cent rise.

The estimates of consumer price indices (CPI) with 2010=100 as its base for all-India and states/union territories are made separately for rural, urban and combined every month with effect from 1 January 2011.
The general indices for rural, urban and combined stood at 137.8, 134.0 and 136.2, respectively.
The CSO releases provisional indices for September 2013 as also final indices for August 2013 for all-India and for states/UTs.
