Consumer price inflation shoots up to 10.36 per cent in April

Consumer price inflation in the country, based on the all-India consumer price index (general), shot up to 10.36 per cent in April on the back of rising prices of vegetables, edible oils and milk.
Consumer price index stood at 9.38 per cent during the previous month (March 2012) as per revised estimates provided by the Central Statistical Office against the provisional estimate of 9.47 per cent.
The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for April 2012 are 9.86 per cent and 11.10 per cent, respectively.
Inflation rates (final) for rural and urban areas for March 2012 are 8.70 per cent and 10.30 per cent, respectively.
During the month, prices of vegetables recorded the maximum year-on-year increase of 24.55 per cent, followed by edible oils (17.63 per cent) and milk products (14.94 per cent).
Prices of egg, fish and meat shot up 9.95 per cent, while non-alcoholic beverages were dearer by up to 9.52 per cent.
