Core sector industrial production in India up 4.3% in November

Core sector industrial production in India, based on the combined index of eight core industries, increased by 4.3 per cent in November 2024 compared to November 2023, provisional figures released by the ministry of commerce and industry showed.
Production of eight core industries, namely, coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity, accounting for 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), recorded a cumulative growth of 4.2 per cent year-on-year during April-November 2024-25.
The revised growth rate of core sector output for August showed a decline of 1.5 per cent.
Production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the index, increased by 7.5 per cent year-on-year in November 2024, while cumulative production of coal increased by 6.4 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Production of crude oil (weight of 8.98 per cent) declined by 2.1 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative production of crude oil declined by 2.4 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Production of natural gas (weight of 6.88 per cent) declined by 1.9 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative production of natural gas increased by 1.1 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent) increased by 2.9 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative refinery throughput increased by 2.7 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Fertiliser production (weight of 2.63 per cent) increased by 2.0 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative production of fertilises increased by 1.6 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Steel production (weight of 17.92 per cent) increased by 4.8 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative production of steel increased by 5.9 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Production of cement (weight of 5.37 per cent) increased by 13 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative production of cement increased by 3.1 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent) increased by 3.8 per cent in November 2024, while cumulative production of electricity increased by 5.3 per cent during April-November 2024-25.
