The Enforcement Directorate, which is investigating the Commonwealth Games 'overlays' scam, has sought a host of documents related to tenders and award of contracts from the games organising committee, then headed by the jailed ex-Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi, according to a report.

The ED has summoned officials concerned in the games organisation to appear before it with the required documents and clarify certain details, news agencies reported citing unnamed sources.

The ED has filed a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is investigating the money trail in the scam.

Besides the ED, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Central Vigilance Commission are also looking into alleged irregularities in the overlays scam. The CVC has put overlays contract worth Rs668.49 crore under its scanner.

"We have asked for certain documents and details of money transactions, bidding and eligibility criteria of the contractors. The documents are under examination and certain questions in this regard will be put forth to Kalmadi," a PTI report quoted ED sources as saying.

The report adds that the directorate will soon seek the court's permission to question Kalmadi, who was recently arrested by the CBI on charges of cheating, conspiracy and corruption in the preparations for the Commonwealth Games last year. He has been remanded to judicial custody till 18 May.
