ESIC to tap services of part time doctors in state government hospitals
12 Jul 2010
The central government will tie up primary and secondary health care under the Employee State Insurance Scheme (ESIS), if such facilities are not available within 8km of a dispensary and 25km of a hospital.
Stating this at the inauguration of a new ESIC divisional office at Gulbarga in Karnataka, union minister of labour and employment Mallikarjun Kharge called for co-operation between state governments and the central government for efficient administration of the ESI Scheme.
The minister said state governments would be allowed to appoint part time doctors for dispensaries and hospitals under the ESI Scheme. The expenditure on these part time doctors will be fully borne by the ESI Corporation. This will facilitate the state governments in providing medical care under the scheme to the beneficiaries.
Karnataka minister of labour BN Bacchegowda, who presided over the function, said the ESI Corporation is now a vibrant organisation with the channeling of central funds.
The ESIC divisional office in Gulbarga will cater to the needs of ESI beneficiaries of the area and will monitor, quickly dispose claims, grievances and settle issue relating to recovery, and refund of employee claims without any delay.
The Gulbarga office will have jurisdiction over Gulbarga, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Banahatti, Malked, Yadgir, Sedam, Kukunta, Raichur, Bellary, Hospet and Munirabad centres.
