Government hikes support prices of kharif crops for 2013-14 season

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved increases of Rs60 and Rs65 per quintal in the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy (common) and paddy (grade-A) for the 2013-14 kharif season.
The MSP of paddy (common) has been fixed at Rs1,310 per quintal and of paddy (Grade A) at Rs1,345 per quintal - an increase of Rs60 per quintal and Rs65 per quintal, respectively, over their MSPs of last year.
The MSPs of jowar (hybrid), jowar (Maldandi) and Ragi have been retained at last year`s level of Rs1,500 per quintal, Rs1,520 per quintal and Rs1,500 per quintal respectively.
The MSP of bajra has been raised by Rs75 per quintal and fixed at Rs1,250 per quintal.
The MSP of maize has been raised by Rs135 per quintal over last year`s MSP to Rs1,310 per quintal.
The MSP of arhar (tur) has been fixed at Rs4,300 per quintal and of moong at Rs4,500 per quintal, marking increases of Rs450 per quintal and Rs100 per quintal, respectively, over their MSP of last year.
The MSP of Urad has been retained at last year`s level of Rs4,300 per quintal.
The MSPs of groundnut-in-shell, soyabean (black) and sesamum have been increased by Rs300 per quintal each and fixed at Rs4,000 per quintal, Rs2,500 per quintal and Rs4,500 per quintal, respectively.
MSP of soyabean (yellow) has been increased by Rs320 per quintal and fixed at Rs2,560 per quintal.
The MSPs of sunflower seed and nigerseed have been retained at last year`s levels of Rs3,700 per quintal and Rs3,500 per quintal. respectively.
MSP of cotton (medium staple) and cotton (long staple) have been raised by Rs100 per quintal each and fixed at Rs3,700 per quintal and Rs4,000 per quintal, respectively.
