Consumer price inflation in the country, based on the consumer price index climbed back to hit a three-month high of 5.03 per cent in February 2021 from 4.06 per cent in January on rising food and fuel prices, still remaining within the tolerance limit set by the Reserve Bank of India of 4+/- 2 per cent.
The rise in inflation may be attributed to a spike in oil prices that has driven up fuel prices in the country to unheard of levels.
Data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that consumer price inflation that hit a low of 3.15 per cent in July last year has started going up again after a brief lull.
Consumer price inflation for rural areas stood at 4.19 per cent in February 2021 against 3.23 per cent in January.
Consumer price inflation for urban areas rose to 5.96 per cent in February 2021 from 5.06 per cent in January.
Food price inflation zoomed to 3.87 per cent in February 2021 from 1.96 per cent in January.
Food price inflation for rural areas rose to 2.89 per cent in February 2021 from 1.11 per cent in January.
Food price inflation for urban areas stood at 2.89 per cent in February 2021 against 3.36 per cent in January.
