Consumer price inflation in the country based on the consumer price index declined marginally to 3.15 per cent in July 2019 from 3.18 per cent in June, provisional figures released today showed.
The inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 4.17 per cent in July 2018.
Data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that inflation in food basket rose further to 2.36 per cent in July 2019 from 2.17 per cent in June.
The level of inflation is still below the Reserve Bank’s medium-term inflation target, although it continues to rise.
Consumer price inflation for the rural areas declined to 2.19 per cent in July 2019 from 2.21 per cent in June. It was 4.11 per cent in July 2018.
Consumer price inflation for the urban areas declined further to 4.22 per cent in July 2019 from 4.33 per cent in June. It was 4.32 per cent in July 2018.
Food price inflation for rural areas rose slightly and stood 0.57 per cent in July 2019 against 0.43 in June. It was 2.15 per cent in July 2018.
Food price inflation for urban areas increased slightly to 5.61 per cent in July 2019 from 5.56 per cent in June. It was (-) 0.36 per cent in July 2018.
