India’s core sector output expanded 4.5% in July

Core sector industrial production in the country increased by 4.5 per cent year-on-year in July 2022 boosted by increased output of coal, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, electricity and cement.

The combined index of the eight core industries comprising 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), expanded by 11.5 per cent during April-July 2022-23 compared to the corresponding period of the pervious FY.
Final growth rate of Index of Eight Core Industries eight core industries, comprising coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity for April 2022 has been revised to 9.5 per cent from its provisional level 8.4 per cent.
Production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the index, increased by 11.4 per cent in July 2022. Cumulative production of coal increased by 26.6 per cent year-on-year during April-July 2022-23.
Crude oil production (weight of 8.98 per cent in IIP) declined by 3.8 per cent in July 2022 while cumulative production of crude oil declined by 0.5 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
Production of natural gas (weight of 6.88 per cent in IIP) declined by 0.3 per cent in July 2022 while cumulative production of natural gas increased by 3.5 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in IIP) increased by 6.2 per cent in July 2022 over while cumulative refinery throughput increased by 11.7 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
Fertilizers production (weight of 2.63 per cent in IIP) increased by 6.2 per cent in July 2022 while cumulative fertiliser production increased by 11.3 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
Steel production (weight of 17.92 per cent in IIP) increased by 5.7 per cent in July 2022 while cumulative steel production increased by 6.5 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
Cement production (weight of 5.37 per cent in IIP) increased by 2.1 per cent in July 2022 while cumulative cement production increased by 13.3 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent in IIP) increased by 2.2 per cent in July 2022 while cumulative generation of electricity increased by 13.1 per cent during April-July 2022-23.
